I am a diabetic on insulin – is a hair transplant treatment safe for me?

Yes, absolutely if the medical team is aware of your condition and make all the necessary precautions, we have treated numerous patients with diabetes on insulin.

Can women also have MSP treatment for thinning hair?

Yes, in many cases the Micro Scalp Pigmentation can help women to dissimulate the thinning areas by working on them with the MSP technique.

Can someone with Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) have a hair transplant?

Trichotillomania  or hair pulling disorder is classified as a disease. Its an very strong urge to pull out the hair, the follicles are damaged with the endless pulling and the hair usually doesn’t grow again due to the constant pulling. We can do the transplant as long as the donor area is in good order but it would be unless the condition is under control as the patient might possibly pull out all the newly transplanted hair.

Talk to your consultant and he will be able to give you more information

Can I drink coffee on the day of my hair transplant?

Coffee is a stimulant and during a hair transplant you usually want to feel calm and relaxed, most of the time a mild sedation is also given and the coffee can work on reversing these effects and is therefore rarely recommended until after the surgery

Do you offer hair systems?

With hair systems I assume you are referring to the wig type systems, hair system is nothing but a finer word for what most of is would call a wig and no we don’t supply or service these.  We do however help a lot of people who want to get rid of their hair systems by supplying them with hair transplants or Micro Scalp Pigmentations with great results.

Can I get my insurance to pay for my hair transplant?

In most cases no, NHS in the UK will pay for a handful of surgeries per year but not in normal balding or thinning cases. We have had a few clients which have lost their hair following accidents where there was a private insurance liability and the insurance company paid for their hair transplant but unfortunately if you are experiencing thinning and balding this will not be the case for you.

Can I have a hair transplant in Spain and still have my stitches aftercare in the UK?

Yes, without any problems, it doesn’t matter in which Vinci Hair Clinic you have your procedure done, you will always be welcome to have all aftercare done on any other Vinci clinic.  Most of our patients in Malaga, Spain for example come from the UK and Ireland and like to have the surgery done in Malaga, enjoy a few days of sun on the costa del sol and be back in a few days.  We then offer the stitch removal in our UK clinic or offices as well as all follow up for the patients convenience.

Can I have a hair transplant after having Scalp Pigmentation?

Yes, you can and it wont affect the hair growth in any way.  Many people that are completely bald and have a MSP treatment like to have a few hundred hairs implanted with our FUE technique, distributing it all over the scalp to get the feeling of hair stubs when someone touches the hairs, this looks absolutely natural and the hair grows just as well as in an area that hasn’t been treated with Scalp Pigmentation.

I saw a surgical robot doing a FUE on a tv show. Do you have these and are they better then a normal FUE?

The funny thing is that the surgical robot will need a Doctor to control the robot, the robot will only punch into the scalp and intend to remove the graft on command.  While this might sound like a futuristic thing and some people might try to sell this as better than a steady hand doing FUE extraction versus the robotic arm I believe that on the contrary the risk of damage using the robot is greater and it holds no advantages for the surgeon or patient.

I had a Micro Scalp Pigmentation a week ago and the color has faded a lot, I am afraid it is going to disappear, is that possible?

It sounds like you had your first session a week ago and its normal for the color to go down, you will need 2-3 sessions to achieve the final result and in some cases even more. This is due to the scalp being a living material; some scalps will absorb a considerable amount of pigment while others will take it almost fully in the first session. The truth is that it’s easy to darken and add pigments, but it’s much harder to remove something that is too dark or strong; so being careful is not only recommended but a rule for all our MSP technicians.

After the second session you should see the final result or close to it at least, as I said some people will need more sessions then others.

What size of FUE punch is best for FUE?

This will depend on the texture of the hair, the size of the grafts and what area they are to be implanted into.  If you for example want to implant into eyebrows 0.6 mm might be the norm while we like to use 0.8 – 1mm for normal FUE hair transplant.  Its hard to say what is best until you examine the hair that you are about to transplant but usually you will not see any visible scars with punches this size and they are still big enough to get even a graft containing four hairs out of the scalp without damaging it.

I am seeing very little growth through my scalp after 3 months, I am afraid something is not right?

Its rare to see much growth at this time point, usually this is when the hair shafts are just starting to poke through and we all heal and grow at a different pace. I have had the pleasure of seeing people with great results at this time after their hair transplant as well as seeing people with almost no growth but this usually doesn’t tell you anything about the final results.

I wouldn’t be to worried after 3 months, you should start seeing more hair coming through in the next couple of month’s and at 6 months your should have a decent results even though the final result can take up to one year to appear.

Is a hair transplant cheaper in Brazil than the UK?

Generally speaking do, prices are very similar in both places but this would of course depend on what sort of surgery you are looking for, FUE, FUT, Vinci Max, number of grafts and etc but usually there would not be a considerable difference in price between these locations.

I am still red in the scalp where my hairs where implanted over 6 weeks ago what should I do?

As always its harder to give advice without seeing the affected area but from what you wrote this sounds quite normal. The redness at this stage is usually when the hair shafts have broken off after the hair transplant and the follicle that remained under the surface has started to produce a new hair shaft that is pushing through the scalp. This is usually more apparent in high density hair transplants where a large number of grafts are placed in a small area. Sometimes this can lead to red spots, do not try to squeeze these spots even though they may look like zits, sun and heat are the best thing to soften the scalp and ease this process but it will resolve itself even for the ones of us who are not fortunate to live in a sunny climate.

You are still very early days, soon the hair shafts should be pushing through and the redness should go down.

How does a hair transplant work?

Simply put, a hair transplant takes permanent hair follicles from the donor area – the back of the head and sides that are genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life. This hair is then placed into the thin and balding area of the scalp.

Why am I losing my hair?

For male pattern baldness, the biggest reason for hair loss is a hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), which damages the hair follicles on the top of the head, but doesn’t affect the hairs on the back of the head and sides. For women, there can be a number of other causes that your Vinci consultant can discuss with you

What happens in the consultation?

The consultant will evaluate your stage of hair loss, analyse your donor hair density, and assess if and how we can meet your expectations.

What happens if I am not a good candidate?

If you are not a good candidate for a hair transplant, the consultant will tell you that honestly and recommend alternative options if available.

Do hair transplants look natural?

Yes of course, for an absolutely natural look, we give special attention to the hairline. We place only single grafts and finer hairs in the front, and the further back from the hairline we go, the thicker hairs are used to give maximum density. The grafts are prepared under a microscope and can be placed very close to each other. We design the hairline so it looks natural not only today, but also for all ages to come.

Will the hair grow naturally?

Absolutely, we are using your own natural hair and it will continue growing at the same pace as the rest of your hair.

Will the transplanted hair need any special care?

No, not at all. You treat it exactly as you would the rest of your hair. You don’t need to give any special attention to it – use whatever shampoo you choose, style it like you want, swim, do contact sports – your transplanted hair needs no special care.

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of the procedure will depends on the size of the area that is being treated. On average, a Vinci hair transplant session will take anywhere from 3-6 hours. After the procedure, you can go straight home and relax.

Vinci FUE sessions can take considerably longer and in some cases will require more than one day if a large area is being treated but with our techniques we have managed to shorten the FUE process considerably.

Will I have to shave my head?

Only the hair in the donor strip is trimmed short to a length and the rest of the hair is not touched. As long as you have approximately 1 cm of hair at the back, your hair will look as it always has right after the surgery.

Vinci FUE sessions will require us to shave your donor area quite short.

Will the procedure hurt?

You should have no pain during the procedure. At the beginning of the treatment you’ll receive a local anaesthetic that will make the donor and recipient area completely numb. You won’t feel a thing during the surgery.

Is there any risk of side effects or complications such as infections?

No. All equipment is sterilized according to the highest medical standards; you will also be given a antibiotic so there is no chance of a infection. At Vinci hair clinic, we have made hair transplants into such a science that you can rest assured that there is no risk for side effects.

When can I get back to my normal activities after the procedure?

As long as your work doesn’t involve strenuous activities, you can get back to work the following day, although we do recommend taking a couple of days off if possible. You can wash your hair and style the following day after the procedure.

Will the transplanted hair really grow for the rest of my life?

Yes. The hair follicles we transplant from the donor area are genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life. This doesn’t change when we transplant the hairs to the bald or thinning area.

What is a hair graft?

Hairs naturally grow in a bundle of one to five hairs called hair grafts.

How many hairs are in each graft?

This will differ from one person to the next, but our experience tell us that on average there will be 2.5 hair per follicle, so 4 hair grafts will have on average 10 hairs.

Can I transplant hairs from someone else?

No, your body would reject the foreign tissue.

How much does the procedure cost?

The cost of a hair transplant procedure depends greatly on your stage of hair loss and your expectations, as well as the type of hair transplant you require. A hair transplant is a permanent procedure and will be visible for the rest of your life. While cost is important to consider, the quality of the work should be your number one priority when choosing a company for your hair restoration. At Vinci hair clinics, our procedures start from only 3.000 Euros.

If hair transplants are this good how come there are still so many bald people out there?

Even though hair transplants have been performed successfully for a number of years, there are still a large number of people who don’t realize how simple the procedure is and just how good the results are. The decision to have a hair transplant is a personal one that can greatly enhance your appearance, confidence and quality of life. It’s highly personal decision that you should make for yourself.

Is FUE better that the strip technique ( FUSS \FUT)?

This is an impossible question to answer, so many variables will determine which technique is better.  These variables include the number of grafts that need transplanting, the type of hair, the donor area, expectation, do you usually wear your hair shaved or very short usually.  Its best to get this determined in a private consultation where the pros and cons of each method can be evaluated in your specific case.

Can the Micro Scalp Pigmentation be used to create the look of micro hair for a receding hairline?

Micro Scalp Pigmentation can create the look of micro hairs or short and shaved hairs in the frontal line. You have to respect the limitations that lowering the hairline brings though, if you work in front of the receding line you will not be able to grow your hair long, you will have to commit to shaving your hair every 2-3 days on average to maintain the contrast looking natural between the MSP created hair and your existing hair.

Contact the Vinci Hair Clinic closest to you and get a personal consultation how our Micro Scalp Pigmentation will work for you.

Are consultations free?

Yes, all our consultations in the UK except for home/VIP consults are free of charge.

Does Anvar (Oxandrolone) cause hair loss?

Anvar (Oxandrolone) is in deed a DHT based steroid and as such will cause hair loss in those receptive to male pattern balding, so if you have hair loss or family history of hair loss it would have to be considered highly likely to cause you hair loss.

Taking Finasteride should help slowing down the hair loss but then again it could also minimize the bulking effect of this specific steroid.

How does Laser Cap™ work?

Much like sunlight helping plants to grow, laser therapy stimulates healthy hair growth through the safe use of light. The Laser Cap™ directs light over the scalp and stimulates the blood and hair cells below the scalp to grow and reproduce, promoting the repair of damaged cells and weakened hair follicles. The hair follicles absorb the light in the form of energy, which in turn stimulates cell metabolism, wiping out oxygen free radicals and improving blood flow. The result? Thicker, healthier looking hair, and in many, hair regrowth.

Who can use Laser Cap™?

Laser Cap™ is a viable treatment choice in the management of androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern hair loss), telogen effluvium and menopausal hair thinning. Use Laser Cap™ to stop the progression of hair loss and to stimulate new hair re-growth.

How long will it take before I see any results using Laser Cap™?

Results vary depending on the condition of the hair at the beginning of use. Changes begin occurring at the cellular level of the hair shaft and after 60 days of consistent use (as directed), Laser Cap™ will stop the progression of excess hair loss, and stimulate a gradual increase in hair volume, thickness and growth.

Can I use Laser Cap™ alongside other hair loss treatment such as Rogaine or Propecia?

Yes, it is perfectly safe to use the Laser Cap™ alongside other non-surgical hair loss treatments such as Rogaine/Minoxodil and Propecia/Finasteride.

Can I use the Laser Cap™ if I have had a hair transplant?

Patients that have undergone hair transplants can benefit from the Laser Cap™ treatment program. Laser Hair Therapy has been found to be an amazing tool to speed up wound healing time post operatively, as well as helping to stimulate new hair growth from a transplant. Older hair transplant results can also be improved with the use of LLLT as it is essentially an anti-aging treatment for the hair and scalp.

Does Laser Cap™ work for women?

The Laser Cap™ is suitable for both women and men.

How often do I need to use the Laser Cap™?

With consistent use, 30 minutes per day, 3 times per week patients usually notice a difference in their thinning hair within 60 days.

When can I use the Laser Cap™?

The Laser Cap™ has been designed with your convenience and busy lifestyle in mind. There are no frequent return visits to the clinic for treatment, Laser Cap™ can be used while you are driving, while you exercise or simply in the comfort of your own home.

Can I put the Laser Cap™ in any hat?

You can fit it into any hat large enough to hold it, baseball caps, beanies, bandanna, head scarves and summer hats are all suitable. You can also wear the Laser Cap™ by itself. A rechargeable belt-clip battery that’s practically undetectable powers the cap. All they’ll notice is your healthier, fuller, thicker hair.
