Many people suffering from thinning hair and baldness are turning to hair transplants, numbers released in  International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) Global Survey show.

According to a report on the ISAPS Global Survey Results published in the econotimes.com on October 4, 2016 “Men and women who experience alopecia, baldness or thinning are saying ‘no more’ and electing hair transplants as a viable option”.

Areas like facial hair are showing successful results from this increasingly popular procedure.

Hair transplant surgeries increase dramatically in 2015:

Men have always looked for ways to restore their hair and now women experiencing hair loss are also electing to have this procedure.  Hair transplant surgery boosts confidence and helps most men and women look and feel younger.,

Males still make up the majority of people getting hair transplants at 80.3 percent or 107,611 of overall surgeries. Women claim a large percentage at 19.7 percent or 26,409 surgeries.

India ranks highest with 29.6 per cent of total procedures or 39,625 surgeries followed by Brazil at 6.8 per cent or 9,075 surgeries. A deeper analysis shows that in India, facial hair transplants are prevalent and account for many of the surgeries.

The results of the study are available on the ISAPS website and were discussed at the annual global conference in Kyoto, Japan on October 23–27, 2016.

“It’s amazing how much this number has grown in a year,” notes Susumu Takayanagi, MD, ISAPS president. “With advancements in this highly technical procedure, patients are seeing better results and choosing to do something about bald spots or thinning areas.  It’s also interesting to note that India is the country with the highest number of procedures,” he states.

Researchers collated this data about hair restoration surgeries and non-surgical treatments from 2015 using a single-page questionnaire sent to approximately 35,000 plastic surgeons in the ISAPS database.

ISAPS is the only organization that collects such data on a global scale and stakeholders view the study as a valuable resource in the field.  Researchers at Industry Insights, Inc. (an independent research firm based in Columbus, Ohio)compiled, tabulated, and analyzed the International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures Performed in 2015.
