Is MSP the same as microblading?
Although microblading is a type of micropigmentation, it has some significant differences to MSP. While microblading is performed manually using a blade, MSP utilises a specialist tattoo tool and needles. Another difference is how the pigment is applied. For microblading, fine lines are created to imitate eyebrow hair growth, but MSP uses a dotting method to simulate the look of stubbly regrowth on the scalp.
What should I look for when choosing an MSP technician?
MSP should always be performed by an experienced and skilled technician in an appropriate clinical setting. Before booking a treatment, you should check that the technician has undergone training and holds the appropriate licences for your region. Their treatment room should be clean and demonstrate that they follow hygiene protocol, such as using new needles for every patient. You should also feel comfortable with the technician. Trust your instinct and don’t allow someone to work on you if you feel uncertain.
Does MSP require any special aftercare?
MSP aftercare is easy and shouldn’t affect your usual routine too much. In the first days after a session, it is important to keep the scalp dry and avoid any activity which causes sweating. After around a week, you should continue to avoid sweating and sun exposure but can wash the scalp with a gentle cleanser. Exfoliating products and heavy sweating should be avoided for a full month after a session.
How long does MSP last?
One of the major advantages of MSP is that the result is long-lasting and requires minimal upkeep. The result will gradually fade over the years, primarily due to exposure to UV light. High-quality pigments will not change colour but simply get lighter, so that the result always looks natural. However, it is advisable to protect the scalp by using sunscreen or wearing a hat. If required, a small top-up session can be used to freshen up and darken the result.
