During a recent interview to promote his new Netflix series “The Ranch” Ashton Kutcher revealed that he is losing his hair. Talking to Conan show host Conan O’Brien, Ashton explained that he had started noticing hair loss in his mid-20s.

The model turned actor, known for his roles in “That 70s Show”, “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and “Punk’d”, had been taking a medication called Avodart (dutasteride) for several years. Avodart is not an approved medication for the treatment of male pattern hair loss, however, it is thought to work in a similar way to finasteride. It inhibits the effect of DHT, helping prevent the miniaturisation and shrinking of the follicles that leads to hair loss.

Although 40-year-old Ashton was finding Avodart to be effective, he had some concerns about its side-effects. After marrying Mila Kunis in 2015 and deciding to start a family, he stopped taking the medication. Unfortunately, as with other types of hair regrowth medication, the results reverse if you stop using it. Ashton says that he now has a receding hairline, but doesn’t want to start taking the medication again. He has decided that he will let his hair loss continue and just wear a hat to disguise it.

Unfortunately, it seems like Kutcher is unaware that there are alternatives to Avodart. There are many hair restoration solutions available that can help men with male pattern baldness, stopping the progress of the condition and stimulating hair regrowth.
