I am a diabetic on insulin – is a hair transplant treatment safe for me?
Yes, Vinci Hair Clinic has treated numerous patients who are diabetics on insulin. It is important that you inform the medical team of your condition so that they can take all the necessary precautions for your safety.
Can women also have MSP treatment for thinning hair?
Yes – we have successfully treated many female hair loss sufferers by using MSP to disguise areas of thinning.
Can someone with Trichotillomania have a hair transplant?
Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) is a disorder which causes the sufferer to experience an irresistible urge to pull out their own hair. The repeated strain of pulling can damage the hair follicles, to the extent that hair no longer grows. Although we can do hair transplants on trichotillomania patients (providing the donor area has suitable hair growth), we only recommend this approach if the condition is under control. If not, there is a risk that the patient will pull out the newly transplanted grafts, impacting on the overall results of the treatment. If you have concerns about trichotillomania, please mention this during your consultation at Vinci Hair Clinic.
Can I drink coffee on the day of my hair transplant?
Coffee contains caffeine, which is a stimulant and during a hair transplant you will want to feel calm and relaxed. In most cases, we provide a mild sedation to ensure your comfort and coffee can diminish its effects. In general, we recommend waiting until after surgery to drink coffee.
Do you offer hair systems?
Vinci Hair Clinic understand hair systems as being the wig type systems marketed by many brands. Indeed, hair system is nothing but a fancier way of saying wig or hair piece, and no, we don’t supply or service these. We do, however, help a lot of people who want to get rid of their hair systems, with hair transplants or Micro Scalp Pigmentation treatments, to restore their hair without the inconvenience of wearing a wig.
Can I get my insurance to pay for my hair transplant?
In most cases no, NHS in the UK will pay for a handful of surgeries per year but not in normal balding or thinning cases. We have had a few clients which have lost their hair following accidents where there was a private insurance liability and the insurance company paid for their hair transplant but unfortunately if you are experiencing thinning and balding this will not be the case for you.
Can I have a hair transplant in Spain but have my stitches removed and aftercare in the UK?
Yes. Whichever Vinci Hair Clinic location you choose for your procedure, you will always be welcome to attend any other Vinci clinic for aftercare. For example, most of our patients in Malaga, Spain, come from the UK and Ireland. For them, a convenient option is to have the surgery done in Malaga, enjoy a few days of sun on the Costa del Sol and return home. We offer these patients stitch removal and follow up care in our UK clinics according to their preferences.
Can I have a hair transplant after having Micro Scalp Pigmentation?
Yes, you can and it wont affect the hair growth in any way. Many people that are completely bald choose to complement their MSP treatment by having a few hundred hairs implanted with our FUE technique. We distribute the grafts all over the scalp to give the realistic texture and sensation of short hair growth on touching their head. This results in a completely natural look, and the hair grows just as well as it does in areas that haven’t been treated with Scalp Pigmentation.
I saw a surgical robot doing a FUE on a TV show. Do you have these and are they better then a normal FUE?
Vinci Hair Clinic does not use surgical robots for hair transplants. Although hair transplant robots may seem futuristic, they are still controlled by a doctor, who gives the machine commands enabling it to punch out grafts from the scalp. Though some people might try to sell the robotic arm as better than a steady hand at doing FUE extraction, we believe the contrary – the risk of damage using the robot is greater, and it holds no advantages for the surgeon or the patient.
I had a Micro Scalp Pigmentation a week ago and the colour has faded a lot. I am afraid it is going to disappear, is that possible?
It sounds like you had your first session a week ago and its normal for the colour to become less intense during this period. You will need 2-3 sessions to achieve the final result, and in some cases more. This is due to the scalp being a living material, some scalps will absorb a considerable amount of pigment while others will take it almost fully in the first session. The truth is that it’s easy to darken and add pigments, but it’s much harder to remove something that is too dark or strong. Being careful is not only recommended, but a rule for all our MSP technicians.
After the second session you should see the final result or close to it at least, bearing in mind that people will need more sessions then others.
What size of FUE punch is best for FUE?
This will depend on the texture of the hair, the size of the grafts and what area they are to be implanted into. For an eyebrow transplant, 0.6 mm is the norm, while we tend to use 0.8 – 1mm for a normal FUE hair transplant. Usually you will not see any visible scars with punches of this size, yet they are still big enough to get a graft containing four hairs out of the scalp without damaging it.
I am seeing very little growth through my scalp after 3 months, I am afraid something is not right?
It’s rare to see much growth in the first 3 months after treatment. At this stage the hair shafts are just starting to emerge from the scalp, though it is important to remember that we all heal at a different pace. Vinci’s consultants have had the pleasure of seeing people with great results a relatively short time after their hair transplant, as well as seeing those with almost no growth in the same period. Bear in mind that the appearance of your hair at this stage is far from being your final result.
After 3 months, you shouldn’t worry too much – in fact, you should start seeing more hair coming through in the next couple of months. By the 6 month stage, you should have noticeable growth, though it is at the one year mark when you will be able to appreciate the final result.
Is a hair transplant cheaper in Brazil than the UK?
Generally speaking, prices are very similar in both places. Of course, overall costs depend on your chosen surgical technique (FUE, FUT, Vinci Max) number of grafts, etc. but usually there is no considerable difference in prices between these locations.
I had a transplant 6 weeks ago and am still experiencing redness on my scalp, what should I do?
As always, it’s hard to give advice without seeing the affected area, but from what you wrote this sounds quite normal. Redness at this stage is usually caused where the hair shafts have broken off after the hair transplant and the follicle that remained under the surface has started to produce a new hair shaft that is pushing through the scalp. This is usually more apparent in high density hair transplants where a large number of grafts are placed in a small area. Sometimes this can lead to red spots. Do not try to squeeze these spots even though they may look like zits, as this can damage the follicle or cause infection. Sun and heat are the best thing to soften the scalp and ease the healing process, but it will resolve itself in time, even for those of us who are not fortunate enough to live in a sunny climate. For more personalised advice on your specific case, please contact your specialist at Vinci Hair Clinic.
How does a hair transplant work?
Simply put, a hair transplant takes permanent hair follicles, that are genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life, from the donor area at the back and sides of the head. This hair is then placed into the thin and balding areas of the scalp.
Why am I losing my hair?
Hair loss has a range of causes and it is important to get an expert diagnosis in order to choose the right treatment for your specific condition. For example, male pattern baldness is caused by a hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), which damages the hair follicles on the top of the head, but doesn’t affect the hairs on the back and sides of the head. The same hormone causes female hair loss, but in a different pattern. Other causes of hair loss include stress, scalp conditions and some medications. For personalised hair loss advice, arrange a private consultation with Vinci Hair Clinic.
What can I expect when I attend a Vinci Hair Clinic consultation?
During the consultation, your Vinci specialist will evaluate your stage of hair loss and diagnose the cause. We will discuss your expectations and let you know what we can realistically achieve with the treatment options available to you.
What happens if I am not a good candidate?
If you are not a good candidate for a hair transplant, the consultant will provide their honest assessment of your case and recommend alternative options, which may include MSP or medical treatments .
Do hair transplants look natural?
Yes. At Vinci Hair Clinic, we are dedicated to achieving the most natural looking results for our clients. We understand that a successful transplant is not only about technique, but also careful, well-planned placement of the grafts. We pay particular attention to hairline design, bearing in mind that it must look good today and as you age. For a completely natural look, we place only single grafts and finer hairs at the front near the hairline. As we move further back from the hairline, we implant thicker hairs to increase density.
Will the hair grow naturally?
Absolutely. As we are using your own natural hair, it will continue growing at the same pace as the rest of your hair.
Will the transplanted hair need any special care?
No – after the healing period, your transplants need no special care. You treat it exactly as you would the rest of your hair. Use whatever shampoo you choose, style it however you want, swim, do contact sports – you can forget about your hair transplants and get on with enjoying life.
How long does the procedure take?
The duration of the procedure depends on the size of the area that is being treated. On average, a Vinci hair transplant session will take between 3-6 hours. After the procedure, you can go straight home and relax.
Vinci FUE sessions can take considerably longer and in some cases will require more than one day, if a large area is being treated. We have developed our techniques to shorten the FUE process considerably, while still maintaining the same quality and safety standards.
Will I have to shave my head for my hair transplant?
For FUT, only the hair in the donor strip is trimmed short and the rest of your hair is not touched. As long as you have approximately 1 cm of hair length at the back of your head, your hair will look the same after surgery as it always has.
Vinci FUE sessions will require us to shave your donor area quite short.
Will the procedure hurt?
You should have no pain during the procedure. At the beginning of the treatment you’ll receive a local anaesthetic that will make the donor and recipient area completely numb and ensure your comfort throughout the surgery.
Is there any risk of side effects, or complications such as infections?
At Vinci hair clinic, we have made hair transplants into a science, so that you can rest assured that there is no risk for side effects or complications. All equipment is sterilized according to the highest medical standards, and you will be given an antibiotic so there is no chance of an infection. We supply full instructions and an aftercare kit, and to help you look after your implants during the healing period and prevent post-surgical infection.
When can I get back to my normal activities after the procedure?
As long as your work doesn’t involve strenuous activities you can get back to work the following day, although we do recommend taking a couple of days off, if possible. You can wash your hair and style the following day after the procedure, using the products and instructions supplied in your aftercare kit.
Will the transplanted hair really grow for the rest of my life?
Yes. The hair follicles we transplant from the donor area are genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life. This doesn’t change when we transplant the hairs to the bald or thinning area.
What is a hair graft?
Hair naturally grows in bundles of one to five hairs – each bundle is known as a hair graft.
How many hairs are in each graft?
The number will differ between individuals, but our experience tells us that on average there will be 2.5 hair per follicle, so 4 hair grafts will have, on average, 10 hairs.
Can I transplant hairs from someone else?
No, your body would reject the foreign tissue.
How much does a hair transplant procedure cost?
The cost of a hair transplant procedure depends greatly on your stage of hair loss and your expectations, as well as the type of hair transplant you require. A hair transplant is a permanent procedure and will be visible for the rest of your life. While cost is important to consider, the quality of the work should be your number one priority when choosing a company for your hair restoration. At Vinci Hair Clinic, procedures start from only 3.000 Euros. Finance options may be available to make the treatment more affordable.
If hair transplants are this good how come there are still so many bald people out there?
Even though hair transplants have been performed successfully for a number of years, there are still a large number of people who don’t realize how simple the procedure is and just how good the results are. The decision to have a hair transplant is a personal one that can greatly enhance your appearance, confidence and quality of life, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly – it is a surgical treatment. Vinci Hair Clinic believe that it is important for clients to be fully educated about their hair loss options and we will support you in deciding whether hair transplants, or our other hair restoration treatments, are right for you.
Is FUE better that the strip technique (FUSS/FUT)?
This is an impossible question to answer, so many variables will determine which technique is better for your individual requirements. Considerations include the number of grafts that need transplanting, the type of hair, the condition of the donor area, expectations and whether you usually wear your hair shaved or very short. We recommend that you attend a private consultation with our specialists, where the pros and cons of each method can be evaluated for your specific case and personalised recommendations made.
Can the Micro Scalp Pigmentation be used to create the look of micro hair for a receding hairline?
Micro Scalp Pigmentation can create the look of micro hairs or short/shaved hairs in the frontal line. You have to respect the limitations that lowering the hairline brings though. If we work in front of the receding line, you will not be able to grow your hair long. You will have to commit to shaving your hair every 2-3 days, on average, to maintain the contrast looking natural between the MSP created hair and your existing hair. For personalised advice on how Micro Scalp Pigmentation will work for you, arrange a private consultation at Vinci Hair Clinic.
Are consultations free?
Yes, all Vinci Hair Clinic consultations in the UK are free of charge (with the exception of VIP/home consult sessions.)
Does Anvar (Oxandrolone) cause hair loss?
Anvar (Oxandrolone) is a DHT based steroid and can contribute to hair loss in those with a propensity to male pattern balding. If you have hair loss or family history of hair loss, you have increased risk of experiencing hair loss while taking Anvar. Taking Finasteride can help slowing down the hair loss but may also minimize the bulking effect of this specific steroid.
How does Laser Cap™ work?
Much like sunlight helping plants to grow, laser therapy stimulates healthy hair growth through the safe use of light. The Laser Cap™ directs light over the scalp and stimulates the blood and hair cells below the scalp to grow and reproduce, promoting the repair of damaged cells and weakened hair follicles. The hair follicles absorb the light in the form of energy, which in turn stimulates cell metabolism, wiping out oxygen free radicals and improving blood flow. The result? Thicker, healthier looking hair, and in many cases, hair regrowth.
Who can use Laser Cap™?
Laser Cap™ is a viable treatment choice in the management of androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern hair loss), telogen effluvium and menopausal hair thinning. Use Laser Cap™ to stop the progression of hair loss and to stimulate new hair re-growth.
How long will it take before I see any results using Laser Cap™?
Results vary depending on the condition of the hair at the beginning of use. Changes begin occurring at the cellular level of the hair shaft and after 60 days of consistent use (as directed), Laser Cap™ will stop the progression of excess hair loss, and stimulate a gradual increase in hair volume, thickness and growth.
Can I use Laser Cap™ alongside other hair loss treatment such as Rogaine or Propecia?
Yes, it is perfectly safe to use the Laser Cap™ alongside other non-surgical hair loss treatments such as Rogaine/Minoxodil and Propecia/Finasteride.
Can I use the Laser Cap™ if I have had a hair transplant?
Patients that have undergone hair transplants can benefit from the Laser Cap™ treatment program. Laser Hair Therapy has been found to be an amazing tool to speed up wound healing time post operatively, as well as helping to stimulate new hair growth from a transplant. Older hair transplant results can also be improved with the use of LLLT as it is essentially an anti-aging treatment for the hair and scalp.
Does Laser Cap™ work for women?
The Laser Cap™ is suitable for both women and men.
How often do I need to use the Laser Cap™?
With consistent use, 30 minutes per day, 3 times per week patients usually notice a difference in their thinning hair within 60 days.
When can I use the Laser Cap™?
The Laser Cap™ has been designed with your convenience and busy lifestyle in mind. There is no need for frequent return visits to the clinic for treatment. Laser Cap™ can be used while you are driving, while you exercise or simply in the comfort of your own home.
Can I put the Laser Cap™ in any hat?
You can fit it into any hat large enough to hold it, baseball caps, beanies, bandanna, head scarves and summer hats are all suitable. You can also wear the Laser Cap™ by itself. A rechargeable belt-clip battery that’s practically undetectable powers the cap. All they’ll notice is your healthier, fuller, thicker hair.
