Spring is sprung, as the poet said, and, instinctively, we turn our backs on the dark months of winter and look ahead to brighter, warmer times. The coming of summer encourages us to cast off our dull, cold-season clothing and replace it with lighter, more colourful gear. That same impulse causes many of us to look in the mirror and decide that our hair could use a shakeup, too. That doesn’t just mean changing the length and style of our strands. There’s something about summer that makes us think about changing the colour as well.

In acknowledgement of that fact, we’ve decided to devote this article to looking at some of the hair colours that are sure to be trending this summer. We’ve read the runes, we’ve taken soundings, we’ve crunched the numbers…read on to discover what we think will be the popular hues and shades of the coming months!

Six Types of Coloured Hair That Are Making Waves

Here’s our list of the half-dozen top hair colours that look set to burn brightly in summer 2022. In no particular order:

  1. Golden Brown

Brunette is a kind of hair colour standard that never goes out of fashion, but hairstylists are reporting a rise in the number of people arriving at the salon and asking for hair ‘the same colour as Hаiley Bieber’s.’ The American model and media personality is never too far from a camera, so it’s no surprise that her hair colour is blazing a trail in 2022!

  1. Cool Copper

This vibrant colour has been adopted this year as the hair colour of choice by celebrities like model Kendall Jenner and actress Sidney Sweeney. The signs are that it is continuing to grow in popularity. This fiery hue is not so much a hair colour as a hair statement. Wear it this year only if you want to be noticed!

  1. Two-toned Colours

This is another choice that really says something about your personality. Whether you go for the face-framing bleach strands or the peekaboo highlights, two-toned hair colouring says that you’re a fun-loving person who doesn’t worry too much about what others think. Two-toned hair is by no means a new phenomenon, but celebrities like Rihanna and Miley Cyrus have been spotted recently with newly acquired two-tones, so we think it’s here for the summer.

  1. Icy Blonde

Icy blonde is another shade that never goes out of fashion. This year, it seems to be marginally more popular than other shades of blonde. Maybe it’s the subtle blue or violet tones that lend it that extra bit of glamour and give it an edge. It certainly helped pop star Dua Lipa steal the limelight at the 2022 Grammys when she turned up with her long tresses coloured icy blonde.

  1. Warm Auburn

With copper-coloured hair currently surfing a wave of popularity, it was probably inevitable that a new shade of red would emerge sooner or later. That’s because different skin tones are better suited to some shades of red than others. Stronger copper and strawberry hues look better with fairer skin, while auburn complements a darker complexion. American actress and model Barbie Ferreira’s recent conversion to an auburn hair colour is a strong signal that this colour is trending!

  1. 4D Balayage

First there was balayage, then along came 4D balayage. For those who struggle to tell the difference, balayage is the technique of highlighting the hair in a way that creates a layered effect. The updated 4D version tweaks the technique so that instead of blending the hair from dark to light starting at the roots and continuing to the ends, colours are mixed up from the root, across the mid-lengths and to the ends, creating a striking blend of highlights. It’s a great look for the summer months and one that’s certainly in vogue this year.
