Although thought by many to be a new treatment, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy has been used since the mid-1990s in many fields of medicine, including dentistry and plastic surgery. Professional football clubs have adopted the treatment to help in healing player injuries, and high profile athletes, such as golfer Tiger Woods, have received PRP therapy after surgery. In the field of hair restoration, PRP therapy is used to help men and women with a variety of hair loss conditions, by stimulating hair growth

How Does PRP Therapy Work?

PRP therapy is the injection of platelet rich plasma solution into the area being treated. The PRP solution is obtained by taking a blood sample from the patient. The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins to separate the platelet rich plasma from the other factors in the blood. The resulting PRP solution is concentrated blood plasma that contains approximately three times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood in the body.

What Are Platelets?

Platelets are made of intracellular structures including glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These particles contain clotting and growth factors that are released during the healing and repair process in the body. Platelets promote healing and accelerate the rate and degree of tissue regeneration, and the formation of new cell growth. PRP therapy also plays a role in attracting stem cells, which assist in the healing process. Published medical literature from Europe and the United States confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy.

PRP Therapy For Hair Restoration

Vinci Hair Clinic PRP therapy is a non-surgical, medical procedure performed by highly trained staff in our dedicated hair restoration clinics. PRP offers a natural approach to treating male and female hair loss conditions, using the healing power of your own body. The high concentration of growth factors in the PRP solution stimulates dormant and inactive hair follicles into the growth phase and promotes improved blood flow to the area treated. The results can include restored hair growth, with improved quality and thickness in thinning and miniaturised hairs. We recommend that clients wishing to receive PRP therapy start with sessions every 3 – 4 months, as regular treatment can promote healthy hair growth, increasing the time between sessions as they progress.

PRP Treatment

Is PRP Suitable for Everyone?

PRP therapy is not suitable for everyone and caution should be taken especially in patients with a history of heavy smoking, drug or alcohol use, or a medical diagnosis such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, heart disease, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders. If considering PRP therapy, it it important to fully disclose your medical history to the doctor. For those suitable for PRP, remember that results will vary between individuals and, as with any medical treatment, no specific result can be promised.

PRP can be used as a stand-alone treatment for those that are prone to side effects from other hair loss treatments. As a non-surgical treatment, PRP can be combined with medical hair loss treatments, such as Minoxidil and other DHT inhibitors. It can also be used before, during or after surgical hair restoration, such as a hair transplant.

Vinci Hair Clinic is proud to offer PRP therapy for men and women who are not hair transplant candidates, or who want to promote healing and hair growth after hair transplants. If you have any questions about PRP or any of our other hair restoration solutions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our expert team.
