The plague of hair loss is quickly spreading all over the globe and it’s not just men who are being affected by it—women are falling victim to it too. To counter this, doctors such as Ricardo Rojas started offering a treatment in his salon which dealt with this issue. The treatment included a protein-and-ginseng-infused potion that cleaned the follicles followed by suctioning that enhanced the circulation.

More and more women are suffering from thinning hair. It’s not just older women, but the younger population also has the same issues. Shedding of more than 100 strands a day is a symptom of balding. The reason could be inherited female-pattern baldness or aging.  However, Julie E. Russak, a New York dermatologist, has identified stress and persistent medication to be responsible for hair loss. There have been many attempts by salons to add more volume to hair, but the problem is that it is the scalp that needs attention and not just the hair. Hair loss is caused by under-performing follicles. There are medical treatments like Rogaine that stimulate hair follicles by using light.

With the advances in technology, one of the latest treatments for hair loss in women is now focusing on stimulating microcirculation. Microcirculation helps the poorly functioning follicles to receive the nutrients and oxygen that they need. This, in turn, causes the follicles to grow more and the strands to be thicker.

A recent experiment done by the researchers at the University of Pennsylvania involved testing a specific growth factor released by the immune cell that could create follicle-generating cells from hairless skin cells on mice. Although the results were promising, they did not apply to humans. Another treatment gaining in popularity is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) scalp injections. This treatment involves drawing out the fluid from the patient’s blood and centrifuging it to take out a tonic of growth factors.
