FUE and FUT style hair transplants are more popular now than ever before – but what actually happens during a procedure?

Hair Transplant Basics

Hair transplant surgery is one of the most effective hair restoration treatments. Hair follicles are harvested from the person being treated and implanted into their bald areas to improve density. It is a permanent solution to hair loss that provides a completely natural-looking result.

Follicular Unit Extraction

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is considered the gold standard of hair transplant techniques because it is minimally-invasive. The procedure leaves few signs that the surgery has taken place, allowing the individual to wear short hairstyles after treatment. During FUE surgery, local anaesthetic is used to numb the patient’s scalp and individual hair follicles are removed from the donor area with a micro-punch. The technicians prepare the follicles into grafts and the surgeon places them into the recipient area. No stitches are needed for this technique and recovery is quick, so patients can return to their regular routine in just a few days.

Follicular Unit Transplant

The Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) technique has been used for many years and is an excellent option for people with more advanced hair loss. As with FUE, it is a minor surgery which only requires local anaesthetic and can be performed in one day. The follicles are harvested by removing a narrow strip of skin from the back of the scalp – this allows a higher number of grafts to be created than would be possible with FUE, however, the healing period is slightly longer.

After Surgery

In the days after surgery, patients may experience some scabbing and mild swelling. With the correct aftercare, this will soon pass. After a few weeks, the implanted hairs will fall out and be replaced by new hair growth. It takes around a year to see the full result achieved, though it is well worth the wait – those who have had the treatment describe it as life-changing!

Vinci offers FUT and FUE technique hair transplants, as well as the exclusive Vinci Max treatment for men who have extensive hair loss. In addition to surgery, they also provide non-surgical Micro Scalp Pigmentation, medication and alternatives including LLLT, PRP and Mesotherapy.
